Marine donates £100,000 of life insurance towards dream holiday for pals
A marine who died on service in Afghanistan used part of his military life insurance to fund a dream holiday for his pals, it has emerged.
David Hart, who died as a result of undetected explosion in 2010, had stipulated that £100,000 of any life insurance payout should be used to find a trip to Las Vegas for 32 of his pals. He also left £50,000 to a charity which helps injured marines.
BBC News report that Hart's generosity was made public by his family shortly after his inquest, which was held this week.
Speaking at the inquest, Sgt. Damien O' Sullivan from 40 Commando described Hart as "one of the most professional people I ever met."
"He was the life and soul of any situation he was in and he was loved and respected by everyone in the police mentoring group," he added.
In an interview with The Mail Online, Hart's best friend Andy Hare claimed that the group of pals would never forget the kindness of their friend following their Vegas trip.
He said: "We were treated like royalty and didn't want for anything while we were there. Thanks to Dave's generosity, we've all had a holiday none of us will ever forget."
